Teaching the body to remember balance
Ortho-Bionomy is a gentle, osteopathically-based form of body therapy that has a strong focus on the comfort of the individual. The practitioner and client work together by stimulating the body’s self-correcting and self-balancing reflexes to re-educate the body and restore normal function. There are no forced manipulations.
In Ortho-Bionomy, the practitioner uses gentle movement and directional pressure to present the nervous system with a pattern held in the body. Generally, it takes from a few seconds to a few minutes for the nervous system to recognize the restrictions and send a message to the muscles to let go, when given the chance, the nervous system will always choose the most effective and efficient was to behave.
Benefits of Ortho-Bionomy
The ability of this work to bring a person’s whole body back into balance is phenomenal and it does this by breaking the cycle of pain without creating pain.
Ortho-Bionomy is highly effective in working with:
- Chronic stress
- Pain associated with postural or structural imbalances
- Injuries
- Sciatica
- Low-back pain
- Whiplash
- Fibromyalgia
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Scoliosis
- Plantar fasciitis
- Pre- and post-surgery
Benefits of OB for riders
Ortho-Bionomy can assist the rider in finding greater balance both on and off the horse, this results in better athletic performance and longevity for both horse and rider.
I am often struck by the imbalances in a rider’s body as they walk their horse away from her and how often if is mirrored in their horse’s body! Often this pattern is even more visible once the rider is in the saddle.
If you constantly battle in the saddle:
to sit tall
bring your body back
distribute your weight evenly between both seat bones or stirrups
stop leaning in one direction
bring one shoulder back
Call me and schedule an appointment, you will be amazed at how small changes in your posture will positively benefit your training, riding and your horse. Wouldn’t it be lovely to just be able to ride in balance without fighting your posture? Your horse will thank you for it!
