Kinesio Tape

Kinesio taping of horse's back

This flexible cotton tape is similar in thickness to skin and because it has a flexibility that mimics the elasticity of skin, it allows full range of motion.

The application of the tape affects five physiological compartments of the body; skin, fascia, muscles, joints and the lymphatic system. The effect of the tape is based on its ability interact with the skin and sensory receptors.

Different techniques are used to apply the tape and result in a variety of therapeutic effects including:

Relief of acute and chronic pain

Reduction of muscle tension

Improved joint mechanics

Stimulation or inhibition of muscles

Reduction of swelling and inflammation

When would this type of tape be applied?

Ligament, tendon and joint injury

Circulatory and lymphatic conditions - I have used it to successfully treat vaccine reactions.

Fascial adhesions

Laminitis

Muscle spasms
